Publisher in heated contract dispute with Amazon

Part of running a business in Florida means reaching and signing contracts with other companies that might be able to help your venture succeed. Sometimes, the contract process goes without a hitch and things go quite swimmingly for all the parties involved. Sometimes, however, disputes arise between companies during the process of trying to reach or renew a contract or after a contract has been formed.

Such a dispute is currently occurring between retail giant Amazon and publishing house Hachette Book Group. The dispute regards a contract renewal. While neither company can talk about the specifics of the dispute thanks to a nondisclosure agreement, experts believe that they are arguing about the level of freedom Amazon will be given to discount e-book versions of books from the publishing house.

As this dispute has gone on, Amazon has implemented delays in shipping the publisher’s titles and is not allowing individuals to preorder the publisher’s books on the Amazon website. Some notable and best-selling authors of the publisher are David Baldacci, Nicholas Sparks and James Patterson.

Though they claim it has nothing to do with the dispute, the publisher recently let 28 employees go.

One wonders what other things will happen in this dispute as it carries on and what will ultimately bring this dispute to an end.

If you are a business owner and you are involved in an dispute or litigation regarding business contacts, a Miami attorney can thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the matter with the keen eye of a professional and may be able to help you figure out how best to address the matter.
